Good news!‽?

All good things…
We love coming up with new features to make your experience on Tumblr more visceral; when they don’t work out that way, we remove them to make space for new features. Unfortunately, group chats haven’t lived up to our expectations, so we’ll be removing them from Tumblr this month.
Some of you have really leaned into group chats, discussing the merits of various sourdough proofing times, sharing your WIPs with new audiences, and exchanging complicated fan theories on the provenance of Croki.
The majority of you, however, have preferred to have these interactions elsewhere. And so, as we get ready to remove the group chat feature from Tumblr, it’s time to take these conversations to your reblog chains, your replies, and your messages. We’ll leave your chats up until September 22 at 6pm EST. After that, well, the weird will continue to be your oyster.
You got it. Good news! No question marks or interrobangs about it.
You can now turn on push notifications for all new messages in any group chat you’re a member of. Just tap the group chat name at the top of the group chat screen and toggle that baby on.
Never miss a message again.
Hi @staff - is there a way to show messages older than 24 hours with a cap of let's say 10 messages or so? At times, it's not possible for some to login daily, so they may miss out on something valuable and it would help improve the group participation in general.
Thanks,
Good news, @alwaysanexplorer (and the rest of you).
Tumblr can have little a update, as a treat
When we make big tweaks and updates to the platform, we usually announce it right around the time it goes live for all of you.
Today we also want to try out something new and let you know one of the things coming down the pipeline in the near future. Being transparent about updates before they happen is a bit of a balancing act, but we hope it gets you excited and encourages you to keep giving us feedback.
Choose to keep group chat messages for up to 168 action-packed hours
Soon you will no longer be able to get annoyed that the messages in your group chats automatically disappear after 24 hours with no way to change that setting. Over the next few weeks, we’ll slowly roll out an update that will give all group chat owners the option to keep messages viewable in their group chats for 24 hours, 72 hours, or one week. Ahh, the beauty of options.
Owners will be able to change this setting whenever they want once the functionality fully ramps. Upon saving the change, all members will see a message in the group chat that indicates what changes have been made.
Increasing how long messages can stay in group chats you own will be as easy as 1-2-3.5.
1. Lovingly tap the group chat name at the top of the group chat page to open up group chat settings.
2. Delicately tap the “Edit” button next to “Keep messages.”
3. Rapturously make a swift decision to keep messages alive in your group chat for 24 hours, 72 hours, or an entire friggin’ week.
3.5. Tap “Save.”
Some of you might have the update already. Bask in the glory of immediate satisfaction. If you don’t have the option yet, keep your eyes peeled—it’s coming to you soon! Soak in the glory of anticipatory delight.

Wish you could join a group chat, but it’s already full? Now’s your chance to send a request to join. We’ve just updated the maximum number of group chat members from 100 to 101!
No, just kidding. We’ve updated the max to 200 members. Have fun!
