• Attention Racing Fans!

    Do you like fast cars? Do you like turning left? Then you’re in luck. This weekend, we’re going to see how just how bananas the Tumblr community gets when confronted with a real live sporting event, in real live time, in reality. We’re talking of course about the Indianapolis 500, a.k.a. the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. The main race begins Sunday at noon Indy time, and even if you didn’t make it to the 7:30am opening of the Snake Pit, we want to see your Indy posts on Tumblr.

    From now through the checkered flag and beyond, tag your Indy 500-related posts with #indy500. Don’t care about racing or prefer turning rightwards? Post your opinions anyway. We believe in democracy! Track the tag now to follow the buildup to race day!

Jennifer Hom began life as a Chinese American girl in suburban Long Island, New York. As a minority with few friends, she found happiness in drawing fairies, unicorns, magical flying unicorns, princesses, and flowers. With the help of a terribly optimistic mother, she used her countless drawings of magical beings to enroll at the Rhode Island School of Design. Now graduated with a BFA in illustration and a sweet gig at Google, she managed to find a home with climate control. She is still Chinese American, but wants to be a Broadway star.

    meetups:

    Curitiba you were amazing. Thank you for making the tumblr meetup yesterday the biggest in tumblr history with 1,500 users coming out to meet. A very special thanks to Lauro and Phelipe for helping get the word out. You were amazing!

    TUMBLR ADORO CURITIBA. Highlights from Sunday’s meetup in Brasil:

    * A One Direction flash mob performance. Really.

    * This quote, from a 13-year-old girl: “I’m so excited I’m shaking!”

    * A wall-sized mural of the dashboard IRL.

    * Brazilian Tumblr trivia: tumblrers = tumbleros; dashboard = dashboard; LOL = euri.

    See more at our Brasil staff blog, our Tumblr hearts Brasil blog and at #tumblrcuritiba.

Taylor-Ruth makes comics about her life, the world, and the people around her. “I’ve always had a hard time with people, with school, feelings of rejection, loneliness, not fitting in… you know, the struggles all teenagers go through,” she explains. One day, she posted a comic from her personal diary, and the Tumblr community noticed. “I expected everyone to ignore the comic because it was about my life or whatever, but to my surprise it rapidly got notes. Posting the comics about my life was empowering,” she said. (Among other things, Taylor-Ruth loves thunderstorms, horror movies, spooky things, pizza, and hanging out at cemeteries.)

  • editorial:

We’re excited to announce the official launch of Storyboard, our new hub for in-depth conversations with Tumblr’s creative community. We’ll be posting regular features on creators working in and around Tumblr’s massively diverse cosmos — writers, musicians, animators, scientists, artists, archivists, chefs, comedians, or anyone else with a great story to tell. Today we’re talking about Michael Stipe, the New York Times, Afghanistan, and the design mechanics of the Tumblr Dashboard.
We want to hear your stories too. If you’re interested in submitting a story (or even a story idea) for us to publish, just post it on Tumblr tagged with #storyboard. Our editors will monitor the tag and the community’s interactions there, promoting stories that resonate. And if your story really works, we’ll ask to expand it for publication on Storyboard itself.
Last but not least, if you find yourself in New York City on May 10, we’d love to hang out at the official Tumblr meetup celebrating Storyboard’s launch. It’s at Powerhouse Arena, 7-9pm, with drinks on us and several Tumblr celebrity mystery guests (cough Topherchris, Tommypom, cough).
